Vida Miknevičiūtė

Miknevičiūtė’s 2024/25 season begins with a concert performance of Korngold’s Die tote Stadt at the Dvořák Festival in Prague, which she also performs at the Bayerische Staatsoper and in Dmitri Tcherniakov’s new production at Opernhaus Zürich. Salome is another role which features heavily in her diary this season: at the Wiener Staatsoper, Finnish National Opera and Staatsoper Hamburg. Other engagements include Chrysothemis Elektra at Staatsoper unter den Linden; Senta Der fliegende Holländer in Wiesbaden; and Hanna Glawari Die lustige Witwe at Opernhaus Zürich. She also makes her US debut as Sieglinde Die Walküre at Santa Fe Opera and in concert, she performs Wagner’s Die Walküre at the Sydney Opera House and Wolfgang Rihm’s Das Gehege with the Berliner Philharmoniker, both under the baton of Simone Young.

Last season, she made her highly anticipated debut at the Bayreuther Festspiele as Sieglinde and at Victorian Opera Melbourne as the Countess in Strauss’s Capriccio. She also appeared as Lisa Pique Dame and Marietta Die tote Stadt, both at Semperoper Dresden; Jenůfa, Chrysothemis Elektra and Elsa Lohengrin at Staatsoper unter den Linden; Elisabeth Tannhauser and Chrysothemis Elektra at Bayerische Staatsoper; Marietta Die tote Stadt at Staatsoper Hamburg; Senta Der fliegende Holländer at Deutsche Oper Berlin; and Act 1 of Die Walküre with the Berliner Philharmoniker and Kirill Petrenko at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden.

Previous successes include her debut as Sieglinde in Tcherniakov’s new Ring production at the Staatsoper unter den Linden and at Teatro di San Carlo; her highly acclaimed debut as Salome at Teatro alla Scala. Elsewhere she sang Chrysothemis Elektra and the title roles of Giuditta and Salome at Bayerische Staatsoper; Brünnhilde Siegfried with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra; and Chrysothemis Elektra at Salzburg Festival.

Miknevičiūtė studied at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and the University of Music, Leipzig before joining the International Opera Studio at Opernhaus Zürich. She was then a member of the Opera Studio at Staatsoper Hamburg before joining the Staatstheater Mainz as an ensemble member where she performed roles including Elettra Idomeneo; Tatjana Eugene Onegin, Fiordiligi Così fan tutte; Margherita Mefistofele; Violetta La traviata; Eva Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg; Marguerite Faust; Blanche Dialogues de Carmélites; Mimi La bohème; Elisabeth Don Carlo; and Amelia Simon Boccanegra.
