Mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Gubanova delivered an Urlicht full of gravitas, with controlled vibrato and a steady crescendo towards the end. The last words – “das ewig selig Leben” (eternal blissful life) – lingered in the air, providing a wonderful transition to the glorious finale that immediately followed.

Bachtrack

Russian mezzo Ekaterina Gubanova sounded and looked appropriately seductive as Venus, with a rich, luscious tone and supple phrasing

Bachtrack

…but most impressive of all in this performance is Ekaterina Gubanova as the irredeemable Ortrud

Paris Opera play

Another excellent performance was that of mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Gubanova as Brangäne. She has a beautiful voice and excellent musicality and moves on the stage with ease.

Seen and Heard International

Gubanova’s natural stage presence coupled with her plummy, vibrant mezzo-soprano, made for a compelling Adalgisa, whose innocence and earnestness was extremely moving.
