We are thrilled to announce the general management of Malin Byström, one of the world’s leading lyric-dramatic sopranos. The Swedish soprano is renowned for her compelling stage presence, exceptional vocal versatility and commanding interpretations of some of the repertoire’s most demanding roles. A distinguished interpreter of Strauss, Wagner and Puccini, her celebrated portrayal of Salome was hailed as “unsurpassed in the role, vocally and histrionically” by Der Standard and earned her Female Singer of the Year at the 2018 International Opera Awards. More recently, she added one of the dramatic soprano repertoire’s most formidable roles, Isolde in Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, to great acclaim, marking an important new chapter in her repertoire. A regular guest at the world’s foremost opera houses, including the Wiener Staatsoper, Royal Ballet & Opera and Bayerische Staatsoper, she recently toured with Jonas Kaufmann and the Baden-Baden Philharmonic Orchestra.
Currently starring as Tosca at the Wiener Staatsoper, Malin’s engagements this season include her role debut as Amelia in Un ballo in Maschera in a new production at the Royal Ballet & Opera in London, Elisabeth Tannhäuser at the Teatro Real Madrid, Feldmarschallin Der Rosenkavalier at the Wiener Staatsoper, and The Woman in Schönberg’s Erwartung at the Polish National Opera. On the concert platform, she performs Vier letze lieder at the Teatro Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and returns to sing the finale of Strauss’ Capriccio with Andrés Orozco-Estrada with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra where she is an Artist in Residence this season.
