The International Opera Awards have announced their nominations for this year’s awards. Anna Pirozzi and Gerald Finley have been nominated for the Female and Male Singer of the Year categories.
In the New Production category, three productions featuring MWA artists have been nominated: Dmitri Tcherniakov’s double bill of Gluck’s Iphigénie en Aulide and Iphigénie en Tauride at Festival d’Aix-en-Provence which featured Stanislas de Barbeyrac as Pylade; Calixto Bieito’s production of Thomas Adés’s The Exterminating Angel at Opéra national de Paris which saw Filipe Manu sing Eduardo; and Laurent Pelly’s production of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at Teatro Real, Madrid starring Gerald Finley as Hans Sachs and Leigh Melrose as Beckmesser.
The world premiere of Gregory Spears’s The Righteous which was performed at Santa Fe Opera, with Elena Villalón as Sheila has also been nominated.
The winners of each category will be announced on 02 October, in a gala ceremony hosted by the Bayerische Staatsoper. Congratulations to all the nominees!
